RFP

Kozani is a city in Northern Greece with a population of 80.000 people. The project started with the development of a full GIS System of the entire network. The study included a description of the external and internal network system of the city and studied the method of identifying leaks from the existing data with the Service. A hydraulic network simulation model was developed, using the software EPANET2. The area was separated into 22 pressure zones and flow and pressure meters were installed. Field measurements were executed for the calibration of the model. A full telemetry and SCADA system was installed. With the use of the model and the measurements the most critical zones were defined. Site leak detection followed and covered about 30% of the total area. Training of the local staff of the client was done during the campaign. The GIS system and the hydraulic model were both connected with the SCADA system and all the information were transferred on real time basis to the Water Supply Authority's headquarters.

Kozani is a city in Northern Greece with a population of 80.000 people. The project's objective was the final study of Kozani's water supply system including GIS modelling, installation of flow and pressure meters along with the SCADA system, field measurements, design of a replacement program for old valves and pipes, cost estimation, design of pressure management of the network, 24 hrs network monitoring, design of a new billing system and training of the local staff.

A system of tanks was proposed and the network was separated into different zones to give flexibility to the system and achieve better maintenance. Software models were used for the hydraulic design. The steep slopes in the area created severe problems to the pipes during extreme rain events, common in the area. A basic storm water system was designed for the flood protection of the area.

Eressos - Antissa Municipality is located on Lesvos island, North Aegean Sea. The project involved:
- Feasibility study of a solid waste management system for the total area of west Lesvos island.
- Feasibility, preliminary and detailed design studies of water supply and distribution network of eleven (11) villages within the Eressos - Antissa municipality. Water supply transmission and distribution network was designed as HDPE (3rd generation) network of approximate 64,230 m water pipes DN500.
- Feasibility, preliminary and detailed design studies of sewerage network of eleven (11) villages within the Eressos - Antissa municipality. Sewerage network was designed as HDPE (3rd generation) network of approximate 35,375 m pipes DN110 – DN250.
- Preliminary studies of six (6) wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) with their disposal pipelines. The WWTP projects were designed to serve approximate 8,600 PE.

The scope of the project was the study for the tender phase of two small hydroelectric power stations on the Mornos channel, which supplies water to the greater Athens area. The energy produced is almost 800 KWh in each site and the locations of the small hydroelectric stations were proposed on the energy downfall parts of the channel. Both projects were constructed in the Mornos aqueduct near energy dispatch channel, with the necessary modifications of existing installations to avoid active interventions in the environment but also problems in the operation of the aqueduct. The design flow was Q = 14 m3/s in each site and drop 12,2 m in Kirfi HPP and 10,0 m in Elikonas HPP. The energy production was 1.4 MW and 1.17 MW, approximately.

The Water Treatment Plant of Salonika receives water from Aliakmon River and treats it to potable for the supply of the urban group of Salonica town. The plant is located at Sindos area, 11 km west of Salonica. The Plant has a treatment capacity of 150.000 m³/day at present stage, with provision up to 600.000 m³/day at complete development. The treatment achieves removal of solids, asbestos, pesticides and organic load. At present stage, the Plant supplies water to 1,100,000 inhabitants of the city.The dams constructed along Aliakmon River for irrigation and energy production, ensure a high degree of flow regulation. The water is diverted to an open channel, connecting Aliakmon with Axios River, from where it is siphoned under the river to Sindos Pumping Station with an 8 km pipe. It is then pumped to the plant (Tank D2) by a 5 km discharge pipe, where it enters through a DN 1700 steel pipe, equipped with a regulating valve and a flow-meter for flow regulation.

Salonica is the second largest city in Greece with a population of over 1,100,000 people. The sewer system is mainly combined. The Waste Water Treatment Plant has started operating with full capacity in September 2000. The main collector sewer with a total length of 18 Km was constructed 10 years ago. The main objectives of the Master plan included the assessment of the future needs of the fast growing city and selection of optimum measures of protection of the coastal zone, mainly through reduction of CSO (Combined Sewer Overflows) and some reconfiguration of coastline sewer - pumping station arrangements. Also, improvements of inflow balancing at the main WWTP were studied (alternative configurations of retention tanks and pumps) and a filter arrangement for processing of stored storm water was designed. A study for the management of sludge produced at the Salonica WWTP was carried out.

The project concerned the detailed design of a new distribution network with pressure pipes to replace the old network of open channels. It also involved the installation of six (6) new pumping stations, the rehabilitation of the existing irrigation supply network, the road network and the environmental studies. Irrigated area: 3.720 ha.
The existing irrigation network mainly due to the lack of maintenance was abandoned. The scope of the design was a new pressurized distribution network of the 4 zones. Sophisticated hydraulic models were used in the design, like “Labye” for the network design and “Trans” for water hummer phenomena.
